• Freedom Rides: groups traveled from city to city in the south to try to desegregate bus terminals

• Many were met with violence

• Mass Demonstrations

• Lead by MLK

• Many in Birmingham AL.

• Police used tear gas, dogs, cattle prods, fire hoses - sometimes on young children
