• Kush- located on the upper Nile, lead by King Kasha

• Traded in ivory, gold, perfumes

• Traded across the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans

• Declined in 200 CE

• Axum - gained power as Kush declined

• Also traded in the Med. Area in gold, ivory, and animal hides

• 324 CE- converted to Christianity
