- In answering, the rabbi would quote other teachers and authoritative
sources
- Jesus also took questions
- But did not use Scripture as an authority
- He taught on His own authority
- Also claimed the authority to forgive sins

- Use everyday experiences that the people would be familiar with
- A common form of teaching for the Jews
- Parables employ: comparison, symbolism, riddles, proverbs

- ‘Kingdom of God’ – used often in the Synoptic Gospels
- What is it?
- Where the values of God will reign
- ‘Already but not yet’:
- Jesus brings the Kingdom in His teaching
- But the Gospels also tell of an end time event when history will come to
an end

- The law given to Moses was meant to control human sinfulness
- It didn’t
- The OT Prophets spoke of a new prophet who would bring a new law
- Jesus
- Sadducees and Pharisees follow the letter of the law and require others
to do the same
- Jesus says he is the fulfillment of the Law
- Has come to fulfill it not abolish it
